Breaking Barriers: Implementing a Gender Equity Program

Gender equity is a compelling and transformative notion that drives society towards fair and equitable treatment of all genders. It goes beyond merely advocating for sameness, but rather for recognizing and addressing distinct and diverse female and male needs. This is underpinned by the understanding that a society where every individual, regardless of their gender, has equal opportunities and resources is more likely to flourish than a society where gender biases prevail.

Implementing a gender equity program helps to eradicate harmful stereotypes, biases, and discriminatory practices that have kept women and men boxed into specific roles. The Melinda Gates Foundation, through their gender equality division, stands out as a significant advocate in this arena, proving that an equitable society can indeed be a reality.

Gender Inequality in the Workplace

Gender inequality in the workplace remains a persistent and widespread issue. Women, in particular, continue to face numerous obstacles in pursuing their careers, including unequal pay, limited career development opportunities, and prevalent gender stereotypes. This article will delve into the root causes and consequences of gender inequality in the workplace, as well as discuss strategies and best practices for addressing this issue.

#EmbraceEquity: International Women’s Day 2023

2023 is all about equity—the quality of being “fair.” This year’s International Women’s Day theme, #EmbraceEquity, encourages everyone to “do their part in creating a fair and equal world within their sphere of influence.” We believe that the process of equity can only truly begin once we’ve taken a look inward through the lens of equity. What biases have we internalized and how do they hold us back? How can we define our own unique needs and seek support to satisfy each one? From there, we are better equipped to model equity as a process and advocate for others through allyship. When we are first fair to ourselves, we can challenge inequities in our workplaces and beyond—breaking down bias and moving toward equal.

Women’s Equality Day and the Equal Rights Amendment

August 26th is Women’s Equality Day. The day marks the anniversary of the 1920 passing of the 19th amendment which granted women the right to vote. The date was officially marked as Women’s Equality Day by Congress in 1971. In 2022, this day comes on the heels of a lot of conversation around Constitutional rights for women following the reversal of Roe v. Wade. That conversation has me thinking a lot about two things—The Equal Rights Amendment and the importance of voting.

#EachforEqual - International Women’s Day 2020

International Women’s Day is just a few weeks away! March 8, 2020 marks a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women - while also marking a call to action for accelerating gender equality.

This year’s theme—Each for Equal—is a call of collective individualism. It relies on everyone taking individual action to create a more gender equal world.

The Importance of Discomfort – Identifying & Owning My White Privilege

A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to attend the Racial Equity Institute’s (REI) Phase 1 Racial Equity Workshop. The Greater Cincinnati Foundation (GCF) invited REI to Cincinnati offer several (free!) sessions of this Phase 1 workshop as a part of their Racial Equity Matters series, “illustrating their commitment to conversations about racial equity that build connections and move us forward with enhanced insights and shared purpose.” The two-day session, facilitated by REI trainers Suzanne Plihcik, Matt Bell, and George Clopton, delivered on that commitment and so much more.

Three Ways to Continue the Conversation on Gender Equality

Calendars have flipped to April, which means that in addition to longer days and rising temps, we’re closing the chapter on Women’s History Month. However, we’re here to remind you that gender equality is not about a single day, or a single month—this year’s theme for International Women’s Day makes it clear that the Press for Progress is an ongoing call to drive change in ourselves, in our workplaces, and in our communities. The “hype” may have passed, but the need has not.

International Women’s Day: When & Where to Celebrate

This exciting day is right around the corner. Now, more than ever, there is a strong need to press forward and progress gender parity. In honor of this year’s theme, Gild Collective has created a Press For Progress workshop. We would love to help you celebrate the women in your organization.

International Women’s Day: Why We Celebrate

International Women’s Day is a global day to celebrate the achievements of women and to continue making the call for gender parity.

Let’s break that down.
