We’ve been talking a lot about burnout recently—from our review of the 2020 Women in the Workplace report, a deep dive on what organizations can do to retain their female talent, and our new workshop topics on Navigating and Managing Burnout.
We’ve been talking about burnout because…
...it is one of the top causes leading women to consider downshifting their careers or leaving the workforce.
...it is impacting our mental and physical health.
...we’re experiencing it, as are so many of the women in our lives.
...we need to start working against it.
Last week I had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Casen DeMaria of Drugless Doctors. As a chiropractor, Dr. Casen works with many women and helps them to identify the gaps and challenges they may be facing, finding the right place to begin and helping her patients get their gusto back.
We recorded our short conversation so you can hear directly from her how stress impacts the body by depleting minerals and reducing oxygen, and how women’s bodies are often impacted significantly as a response to stress and burnout. Her focus is on preventing ailments by improving overall body function.
As you start to think about the new year approaching, we each highlight different ways to set yourself up for success and avoid burnout—even as we are all juggling shifting responsibilities brought on by the pandemic.
Re-evaluate your goals to align them with the changes in our routines and support. Consider taking this to your manager to adjust performance review criteria as well.
Set boundaries for yourself and your teams to establish clear expectations around working and non-working times.
Schedule self-care that supports your overall body function and aligns with your personal goals for physical and mental health. With brief moments of downtime, fuel yourself with healthy food and stay hydrated!
You can find many more resources from Dr. Casen on the Drugless Doctors website and by following Dr. Casen and her team on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
As always, you can reach out to us at Gild Collective to talk more about sharing these tools for Navigating Burnout with your organization.
