We partnered with Scripps as a key component of their rollout of an enterprise-wide inclusion strategy in March 2020. Developing an inclusion program for gender equity is one of four key pillars to this rollout, which also includes support for race issues, veteran issues, and LGBTQQIA communities.
The “Championing Women” workshop for Scripps focused on these key objectives:
Understanding the unique challenges and inequities for women in the workplace, both broadly and organization specific
Creating distinction between equity and equality, and the steps to achieve each one
Recognizing the value of creating a diverse workforce and drivers of recruitment, retention and engagement of female employees
Developing concrete steps and actionable tools that allow each individual to become an ally to the women in the organization—creating a culture of advocacy company-wide
The session was interactive, delivered to a small in-person group and broad virtual one. We were able to be specific to gender issues in the media market, and hone in on strategies that employees can use to build allyship skills and advocacy culture. Employees who joined from remote offices were led by internal champions that we created engaging discussion guides for, so that they could be empowered to create a dialogue without being present in the main offices.
